CSK and SRH See Their Betting Odds Plummet In IPL 2020
Before the start of IPL 2020, bookmakers had put down Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) within the top 3 teams who were expected to win the IPL Championship. However, a week into IPL 2020 and the bookmakers have downgraded both CSK and SRH to the bottom of the list as both teams have had poor results so far.
CSK Lose 2 Out Of Their First 3 Games
CSK played the first game of the IPL and surprised the defending champions and betting favorites Mumbai Indians by pulling off a last-over win. CSK fans were ecstatic as their team had overcome several challenges in the lead up to the IPL and commenced their campaign on a winning note. The CSK win also validated why bookmakers continued to rank the MS Dhoni-led team as one of the favorites to win.
However, the fortunes of CSK turned rather quickly as they lost their next two games against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Delhi Capitals (DC). CSK now has betting odds of 8.5 of winning the IPL Championship as they sit in 6th place at the time of this writing on the IPL points table.
The big concern for CSK is that the team has gone backwards in each match and their loss to the Delhi Capitals was a one-sided affair as CSK ended up losing by 44 runs. There are several issues that CSK needs to address if they are going to turn things around.
The form of their opening batsmen is a concern especially M Vijay. The form of the middle-order is also questionable, especially with MS Dhoni deciding to come in at 6 or 7, which is definitely too late. CSK has stated that they are batting Dhoni lower down the order because he has less time in the middle. However, MSD will have to bat higher up and take charge of CSK’s middle-order.
R Jadeja has turned out to be very expensive with the ball and looks out of form. CSK is likely to give these players a few more games to find form, given the fact that all of them have not had any match practice during the lockdown. However, CSK will also need to decide to see whether they can introduce new blood and allow them to shine.
Sunrisers At The Bottom Of The Points Table
Most bookmakers had Sunrisers Hyderabad second on the list of teams to win the IPL championship, but things haven’t gone well for SRH. They have lost their first two games of the IPL and now sit at the bottom of the points table in 8th place.
SRH had a close game in their opening match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and ended up losing by 10 runs. Like CSK, they went backwards in their second game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and ended up losing by 7 wickets.
SRH depend heavily on their captain and opening batsman David Warner to get them off to a good start. Warner failed in the first game, and in the second, he got out for 36 just as he was getting set. The main problem that SRH has faced in that they have been unable to score at a quick pace, which is why they have had totals of 153 against RCB and 142 against KKR.
SRH needs to fix its slot scoring rate by getting a better start from their openers, which will take some of the pressure of the middle-order and allow them to play their shots more freely. The bookmakers currently have odds for SRH at (11), which is very surprising as they went from the number 2 team to win to the number 8 team.
Good Time To Bet On CSK and SRH
Serious IPL bettors will be happy with the current betting odds on CSK and SRH because it is a great time to put some money on these two teams and wait to see if they can reverse their fortunes from now on.
CSK will definitely have a bigger challenge because they have players who are out of form, and MS Dhoni is struggling to find the confidence to bat higher up the order. SRH has a bigger chance of turning things around as Warner is a gritty fighter and will want to put a stamp on this tournament quickly.
The other two teams who are part of the bottom 4 teams are KKR, who are in 5th place on the points table with odds of 7, and RCB who are in 7th place with odds of 7 as well.
