MMA Betting Tips To Help Punters Bet Right On UFC 258 On Feb 13
The UFC will host its second pay-per-view at the UFC Apex Center in Las Vegas. UFC 258 will be the first pay-per-view of 2021 on American soil, as the first pay-per-view took place on Fight Island, Abu Dhabi.
UFC 258 will be headlined by a UFC welterweight title fight between champion Kamaru Usman and the number one contender Gilbert Burns. The card also features several exciting fights on the Main Card as well as the prelims. We take a look at five of these fights and share our thoughts on which fighters we think you should bet on.
While we share our educated opinion on these fights, please do your own research and decide on what you think is best.
Usman vs. Burns – Main Event
Kamaru Usman was supposed to fight Gilbert Burns in 2020, but Burns had to pull out, giving Jorge Masvidal a chance to fight for the belt. Burns is eager to take advantage of his title shot and become the new UFC welterweight champion. The two fighters have a history together as they used to train on the same team and have sparred and grappled with each other many times.
The two know each other’s game very well, and the fight is expected to be a very close one on paper but not in the eyes of the sportsbooks. Usman goes in as the heavy betting favourite with odds of 4/1, while Burns is the underdog at 9/4. Usman is the favourite as he has never lost in the UFC and has never been taken down in a fight.
However, if anyone can take down Usman, it is Gilbert Burns. They say styles make fights, and this one could be a barn burner both on the feet and on the ground as well. Burns is exceptional with his BJJ and has improved a lot with his striking. At the same time, Usman is very good with his striking and has shown that his wrestling is also very good.
We will put our money on Gilbert Burns to pull off a shock upset.
Barber vs. Grasso
The co-main event will feature a flyweight bout between the impressive Alexa Grasso and the ‘Future’ Maycee Barber. The UFC is giving Barber a push by allowing her to fight in a co-main event. Barber had a lot of momentum going for her before she suffered the first loss in Roxanne Modafferi’s career in Jan 2020.
Barber got injured during the fight and was forced out of action for over a year. Grasso has shown tremendous progress during her time in the UFC and goes in as the betting favorite with odds of 8/11 against Barber, who is at 11/10. Grasso’s last fight was on Aug 30, when she won by decision.
Suppose you want to play it safe, bet on Grasso because it is hard to predict how the 22-year-old Barber is going to perform after a 12-month layoff and her first loss. However, she looks like a star and has enormous potential, so we will put our money on Barber.
Gastelum vs. Heinisch
Kelvin Gastelum goes in as the betting favorite at 10/21 in his fight against Ian Heinisch. However, we think the bookmakers might have got it wrong with this one. Gastelum put up a fantastic performance in his title fight in 2019 against Israel Adesanya, but since then, he has lost two of his fights and has looked like a different fighter.
Counting the Adesanya fight, Gastelum has lost his last three fights and will be under pressure to win his fight against Heinisch, who is coming off a first-round KO over Gerald Meerschaert in June 2020. We would definitely put our money on Heinisch as he has a good chin and a good ground game.
Other Fights To Bet On
The main card also features another banger with Pedro Munhoz (5/4) and Jimmy Rivera (4/6) battling it out at bantamweight. Both fighters hit hard, and this should be a slugfest. We would put our money on Munhoz as he has shown that he can dish it out and take it.
Another very interesting fight on the prelims is veteran Jim Miller (9/4) taking on the dangerous Bobby Green (4/11). Miller is exceptional on the ground and will look to take Green down and submit him. Green is coming off a loss and will be eager to get a win under his name. We would put our money on Green.
Some of the other exciting fights include Ricky Simon vs. Brian Kelleher and Gillian Robertson vs. Miranda Maverick.
