West Indies vs. Australia – ODI Series – Betting Odds and Predictions
If you like betting on ODI cricket, then you should keep a close watch on the West Indies vs. Australia ODI series. Australia travelled to the Caribbean islands to play a five-match T20 series against the West Indies, followed by a 3 match ODI series. The T20 series is currently taking place, and the fifth and final T20 is set to take place on 17 July.
The teams get a few days’ rest and then prepare for the ODI series, which will also take place at the Darren Sammy Stadium in Gros Islet. The first ODI is set for 21 July, followed by the second ODI on 23 July, and then the final ODI will take place on 25 July. All three ODI’s will be day/night games.
Australia – Struggle In T20 Games
If the first two T20 games are any indication as to how the rest of the series will progress, it does not look good at all for Australia, as they have been completely outplayed in the first two T20s.
We need to point out to casual cricket fans that this Australian team is missing a number of its big players. There is no David Warner, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, or Pat Cummins who are either injured or chose not to come on this tour due to personal reasons. As a result, Australia is fielding several second-string players for both the T20 and ODI series.
With that said, they still have a lot of experience in this squad led by Aaron Finch. Some of the experienced players in this squad include Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazelwood, Matthew Wade, Mitch Marsh, and Dan Christian.
However, they haven’t clicked as a unit in the first two T20s, and Aussie fans will be hoping that they turn things around and don’t get embarrassed in both the T20 and ODI formats.
Australia vs. West Indies – ODI – Betting Odds
The West Indies go in as the favorites to win the ODI series as they have a much stronger squad than Australia and are also playing at home. Australia is the underdogs and knows that they need to fight more to make this a more competitive series.
If Australia can turn things around in the T20 series and win one or two games, it will do well to head into the ODI series. A couple of T20 wins will give them both the confidence and the momentum to believe that they can push the West Indies in the ODI format.
The best chance for Australia to win the ODI series is to win the first ODI and put some pressure on the West Indies. If they lose the T20 series and the first ODI, it will be difficult for them to bounce back.
Australia – ODI Squad – Key Players
Australia will play a similar playing XI to the T20 line-up with a couple of changes at best. Aaron Finch will lead the Aussies in the ODI series again and rely more on his bowling attack than his batsmen. This is because Australia is playing a very strong bowling attack that includes M Starc, J Hazelwood, J Behrendorff, R Meredith and A Agar.
The batting does not look very strong as Australia has preferred to field more all-rounders than pure batsmen. This strategy might end up backfiring in the ODI format as M Marsh, D Christian, and M Henriques will need to put their heads down and play well in the middle-order.
If Australia is going to have any impact in the ODI format, they will need Aaron Finch and M Starc to fire.
West Indies – ODI Squad – Key Players
The West Indies have a very strong squad for the ODIs. Kieron Pollard will once again lead the ODI team, and Shai Hope will serve as his deputy. There are quite a few changes from the T20 side as several young and exciting players will feature in the ODI series.
When it comes to the batting department, watch out for E Lewis, S Hetmyer, D Bravo, and S Hope. The bowling department will feature S Cottrell, A Joseph, and A Phillip. Former captain J Holder and R Chase will play a big role as all-rounders.
Australia vs. West Indies – ODI Series – Prediction
Even though Australia has a few experienced players in the squad, they don’t look to be in good form. M Starc does not look as threatening as before, M Wade looks inconsistent as always, and A Finch appears to be under pressure.
We expect the West Indies to either win the series 3-0 or finish with a 2-1 scoreline.
