Betting Odds For UFC 259, Which Features 3 Title Fights On Mar 6
The UFC has put together some great fight cards during the first two months of 2021. However, their biggest and most interesting fight card will take place on Mar 6 as the UFC has put together three title fights for UFC 259.
UFC 259 will take place at the UFC Apex Center in Las Vegas, and once again, there will be no crowds in attendance. Apart from the three title fights, there are several amazing fights on both the preliminary and early prelims.
The three championship fights scheduled to take place provided no one drops out due to COVID-19 are Jan Blachowicz vs Israel Adesanya for the light-heavyweight championship, Amanda Nunes vs Megan Anderson for the featherweight championship, and Petr Yan vs Aljamain Sterling for the bantamweight championship.
We take a closer look at the three tight fights, give you the betting odds along with our predictions.
Jan Blachowicz vs. Israel Adesanya
UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya is stepping up a weight class to challenge current champ Jan Blachowicz and see if he can become a two-division champion. This will be the first title defence for Blachowicz, and he is the betting underdog with odds of 2/1. Adesanya has never been beaten in the UFC and is the betting favourite at 2/5.
The champ Jan Blachowicz might feel a bit disrespected with these betting odds given the fact that he has three wins over three top middleweight fighters who stepped up a weight class and challenged him and light-heavyweight. He will be keen on making it four in a row by defeating Adesanya and completing his first title defence.
This will be an interesting fight because Adesanya is an exceptional striker and will have the edge when it comes to speed. However, Blachowicz has very heavy hands and has shown that he can put his opponent to sleep with just one punch. We expect this fight to be a striking match as both fighters are not big on grappling.
If Adesanya can avoid a slugfest and evade that big shot, he should take this fight the distance and win by decision. Blachowicz’s best chance is to crowd Adesanya, not give him space and look for the knockout.
We believe that Blachowicz will be able to catch Adesanya and win by KO.
Amanda Nunes vs Megan Anderson
There is no guessing here as to who is the betting favourite. Amanda Nunes is considered the GOAT for women’s MMA as she is a division two champion and has been dominant at featherweight.
Nunes has betting odds of 1/12 and is expected to win by KO. She is fighting Aussie fighter Megan Anderson who is the underdog with odds of 7/1. Nunes has shown that she has the heaviest hands in women’s MMA, has the cardio to go five rounds and is no slouch on the ground. She is the perfect MMA fighter, and it will be up to Anderson to find holes in her game.
Anderson last fought in Feb 2020 and won her fight against Norma Dumont via KO. Whether she will be able to stand and bang with Nunes remains to be seen. Anderson is 6 foot tall and will have the height advantage when fighting Nunes. She should make use of this to keep Nunes at bay and look to catch her by surprise.
It’s hard not to go with Nunes for this one, but if you want to take a risk, go ahead and back Anderson to upset the GOAT.
Petr Yan vs. Aljamain Sterling
Petr Yan will defend his bantamweight championship for the first time against number one contender Aljamain Sterling. The two have talked a lot of smack on social media in a bid to promote the fight and get under each other’s skin. They will get to settle their differences in the Octagon on Mar 6.
Yan goes in as the betting favourite with odds of 8/11, while Sterling is the underdog with odds of 11/10. Sterling will not make the mistake of standing and striking with Yan as the champ is the better striker.
Sterling has made it clear that he will shoot a hundred times if he has to because he believes that he will finish him if he takes Yan down. Yan is pretty good on the ground and has exceptional speed, so it may not be as easy for Sterling as he thinks.
We believe that champ Yan has too many tricks up his sleeve and should defend his belt successfully.
