Can India Negate England To Win Third Test In D/N Conditions
The four-match Test series between India and England is evenly tied at 1-1 as we head into the third test match on Feb 24 in Ahmedabad. India predictably enters as betting favorites, with Bet365 giving India 8/15 odds while England is underdogs 3/1. The odds of the third test ending in a draw are currently at 5/1.
D/N Test Will Pose New Challenges For Both Teams
The first two tests took place in Chennai, and the toss played a major role in deciding how the game went. This was because the conditions in Chennai were dry and humid, with the pitch offering great assistance to the spinners.
The two teams move to Ahmedabad for the third test, a D/N test match, and will be played under lights with a pink ball. The conditions will change dramatically for both teams as the ball is expected to swing under lights, especially during the third and final session.
The strategies that the two teams deployed in Chennai will have to be tweaked and maybe even the playing XI – depending on how correctly the two teams judge the pitch and conditions in Ahmedabad. So if you are going to bet on either India or England, you need to factor in the playing XI.
India Strategy: India went in with three spinners in Chennai, and K Yadav wasn’t used a lot. Given that the game is under lights, India is expected to drop Yadav and either bring back J Bumrah, who is available for the third test or bring in H Pandya for K Yadav and replace M Siraj with J Bumrah. India is not expected to make any changes in the batting department.
England Strategy: England needs to bounce back after getting hammered in Chennai. One of the reasons England lost the second test was there was just too much chopping and changing to the Playing XI. England is once again going to make many changes to the playing XI in the third test.
Mooen Ali, who took 8 wickets in the second test, will be missing from action as he has flown back to England. They will also make changes to the batting order as Jonny Bairstow has flown in after his break and is expected to play. However, the main changes like India are going to come in the bowling department.
England has to play James Anderson, the best swing bowler in the world, and could be a handful for India under lights. They will also have to decide on their bowling all-rounders and get in Chris Woakes or ask Ben Stokes to bowl a few more overs.
